What are Qualified Views?

TikTok's Creator Rewards Program does not pay for every view. Views must be from the For You Page (FYP), watched for longer than 5 seconds, and cannot be from duplicate replays. Usually, this hovers between 30% and 50% of total views.

How Does TikTok Pay Creators in 2024?

TikTok recently sunset their original "Creator Fund" and replaced it with the Creator Rewards Program (formerly known as the Creativity Program Beta). Under the new program, creators are paid significantly higher rates, but with much stricter requirements.

The 3 Golden Rules of the Creator Rewards Program:

  1. Length: Videos MUST be longer than 1 minute to be monetized. Short-form (under 60s) earns exactly $0.00.
  2. Originality: The content must be entirely original. Unoriginal content, spam, or re-uploads with watermarks will be disqualified and can get your account banned from the program.
  3. The "Qualified" Catch: You do not get paid for every view. You only get paid for Qualified Views.

What is a "Qualified View"?

Many creators get a video with 10 Million views and expect a massive payout, only to discover their dashboard says they only had 3 Million qualified views. A view is only qualified if:

  • The viewer watches the video for longer than 5 seconds.
  • The viewer does not "Dislike" or click "Not Interested" on the video.
  • Multiple views from the same user only count once.
  • Views from paid promotions/ads do not count.

On average, creators see their "Qualified View" percentage hover between 30% and 55% of their total views.

How to Calculate Your RPM (Revenue Per Mille)

RPM stands for Revenue Per Mille (Mille is Latin for thousand). It is the amount of money TikTok pays you for every 1,000 qualified views.

RPM fluctuates wildly based on your audience demographic. If your audience is mostly adults in the United States interested in Finance, your RPM could be as high as $1.50+. If your audience is mostly teenagers in developing nations watching gaming clips, your RPM might be as low as $0.02.

The Formula:

Earnings = (Total Views × Qualified Percentage) ÷ 1000 × RPM
